The TALIS team studies challenges and opportunities of teaching profession in Ukraine by analyzing educational practices and teacher professional development with TALIS instruments
The initiative for Ukraine to join the study belongs to the public organization "EdCamp Ukraine", and by decision of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), it was designated by the National TALIS Research Center in Ukraine.
Founded in 2015, the organization is now the area leader in non-formal education, with a community of 50,000 teachers representing every second school in the country. This community engages in lifelong learning and actively participates in numerous organizational initiatives, contributing to formation and implementation of the national educational policy. This includes the development of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) reform concepts and standards, solutions in documentation processes, teacher professional development, and promotion of non-discrimination and integrity in education.
Active members of the EdCamp community represent the organization’s core activities by leading Special Sessions at regional events and facilitating dialogue with education policymakers under the principle of “nothing about us without us”.
Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, EdCamp Ukraine has launched a series of humanitarian initiatives focused on crisis support and enhancing the capacity of Ukrainian educators, parents, and students. These include:
The platform engages students’ intrinsic motivation within a gamified, safe environment, offering diverse activities — both subject-specific and focused on developing social and emotional skills (an area the organization has advanced in through implementation of the Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning) in Ukraine since 2019).
The platform’s goal is to achieve national coverage and serve as a “third space” to help schools and families bridge students’ educational gaps.
EdCamp Ukraine’s activities have been recognized by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, the World Bank, the Oxford Symposium on School and Family Counselling, TheirWorld international children’s organization, and other esteemed institutions.
