About EdCamp Ukraine

Leadership in education

EdCamp Ukraine is a civil society organization that unites educators and helps them grow

Founded in 2015, the organization is now the area leader in non-formal education, with a community of 50,000 teachers representing every second school in the country. This community engages in lifelong learning and actively participates in numerous organizational initiatives, contributing to formation and implementation of the national educational policy. This includes the development of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) reform concepts and standards, solutions in documentation processes, teacher professional development, and promotion of non-discrimination and integrity in education.

(Un)conferences and professional development programs

EdCamp Ukraine organizes annual national (un)conferences to support and develop Ukrainian educators and scales these efforts through the series of regional (un)conferences across Ukraine, with 319 events held to date

Active members of the EdCamp community represent the organization’s core activities by leading Special Sessions at regional events and facilitating dialogue with education policymakers under the principle of “nothing about us without us”.

Reform of teacher professional development

The organization has made significant contributions to transforming the area of teacher professional development

  1. In 2018, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, it conducted the study «Teach and Learn: Mapping Ukrainian Teachers’ Professional Growth», surveying 8,427 educators nationwide about their work, advanced training, needs, aspirations, and plans.
  2. The study’s findings, along with the «Declaration on Effective Teacher Professional Development» — signed by leading educational NGOs and other organizations—catalyzed institutional changes in teacher training. These changes include the DDI principle—democratization, decentralization, and integrity in teacher professional development—and supported the adoption of Cabinet of Ministers’ Resolution No. 800, «Certain Issues of Professional Development of Pedagogical and Academic Staff.»
  3. One outcome of these reforms is EdWay, the national platform for teacher professional development, where interested providers can share their training programs.

Bridging educational gaps for high school students

Since 2024, EdCamp Ukraine has been piloting POVIR online educational platform to address students’ educational losses and learning gaps, particularly for high school students

The platform engages students’ intrinsic motivation within a gamified, safe environment, offering diverse activities — both subject-specific and focused on developing social and emotional skills (an area the organization has advanced in through implementation of the Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning) in Ukraine since 2019).

The platform’s goal is to achieve national coverage and serve as a “third space” to help schools and families bridge students’ educational gaps.

International recognition

EdCamp Ukraine’s activities have been recognized by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, the World Bank, the Oxford Symposium on School and Family Counselling, TheirWorld international children’s organization, and other esteemed institutions.
